THE REGIME OF THE STAY-LACE

A Further Selection of Letters from Victorian Newspapers

This fascinating book deals with "Petticoat Discipline"- imposed by women by tight-lacing recalcitrant boys into corsets, and making them wear high-heeled boots or tight kid gloves. In some extreme being so dressed would make them behave without having to resort to the brutality of corporal punishment - although in many of the cases cited they did not escape their either!

A fascinating glimpse of disciplining children in the latter part of the nineteenth century. Colour fashion plates, contemporary photographs and fashion drawings illustrate the styles of the clothing that would have been used.
